Cyrus
Shortly after we moved to West Texas a friend told us about a horse sale on the south side of town. We had rarely gone to any sales in California so we decided to just stop by and see what it was like. As we walked through the pens there was a horse tied in the corner that caught my attention. He was a big sorrel gelding with a flaxen mane and tail, he had some feathering on his legs. As I entered the pen he turned his head toward me, he was drooling and his eyes were glazed over. As I spoke to him he put his head into my chest and a single tear ran down his cheek, that was it, he was coming home with me. My husband thought I was nuts, who would buy a drugged up horse from a horse sale? But I didn't care, there was something about him. We took him home and he got settled in, and yes, he was a little more spirited than most people probably want, but there was a connection between us. He has been my baby and my best friend since that day.
That was in 2006 and Cyrus was 5, now we have done many a trail rides together and the kids even convinced us to playday with them, we go out and have fun. There is a connection between us I cannot explain. There are days when he frustrates me to no end, and he knows it, and just when I have about had enough of him, he walks over and puts his head in my chest and I just laugh. He is my baby and he will always live on our ranch.
