Shaq
Shaq is a very tall handsome TB gelding. He is 5 years old and belonged to a Doctor that owned several race horses. Shaq ran 12 races earning $30,000 for his owner. At the track he bowed a tendon in his right front leg. With not having the ability to run, Shaq was given away to a man who transports horses for the doctor. This man thought that if he allowed him to rest for a few months he could turn him into a great barrel horse. He called us when his leg did not improve and he was unable to keep weight on. Shaq came to us very depressed and would hardly eat because of the pain in his leg. We gave him Equioxx and wrapped his leg, but he still would barely eat. Two days after he came to us he laid down in the grass where he was grazing and would not get up. I was so scared he had given up and was going to die. I got him up and loved on him and seemed a little better. I put him back in his pen and I went into the pasture to get Molly. I told Molly his story as I was leading her up. I told her how depressed he was and how I was afraid we would loose him. I asked her for her help. It was late evening when I put Molly in his pen and when I was leaving for work the next morning I saw Shaq and Molly side by side eating on the round bale. I don't know if it was the competition or the company, and I really don't care. Shaq has continued to improve and is eating well now. He is in need of a foster home. If anyone is interested in fostering this very sweet boy please use our contact page.
Update- Shaq is at a wonderful foster home. He has had the time to allow his leg to get better and he has even started trotting with out pain. A huge THANK YOU to Louise and Steve Cade for everything you have done for Shaq and all the horses at Reillys Ranch.
