Star
On December 3rd I received a call from a gentleman asking me if I could help him by taking in a skinny one eyed horse that he had taken in from his neighbor, I went to pick up Star and the poor thing was the skinniest horse I had met. He had rain rot on his back, but in spite of it all he was also very sweet, he jumped into my shop made trailer and away we went to start a new life for Star.
Star is about 14 yrs old, he only stands about 13.2 hands, but you can tell that when he fills out he will be a very stout little horse. He does not seem to be bothered much by his blind side, he is pretty calm about it.
Star had his eye surgery Jan 19th, he did great. It was a long day for both of us, we drove to Snyder to have it done, and I have to say I was pretty nervous. It's as if one of your kids is having surgery, you know it is for the best but your still worried about them having it. He is a wonderful little horse.
We want to say a BIG thank you to Dr. Charles Church and his staff at West Texas Animal Clinic in Snyder. They are so kind and compassionate. They saw that Star and I were both a bit nervous and they took their time and made sure we were comfortable. They are a wonderful crew and I would highly recommend them to anyone needing an outstanding vet.
Star is ready for his new home. He has gained weight wonderfully. Star is trained beautifully, he reins like a pro, he does roll backs. It seems that Star's place is in the arena, he loves it. We have taken him to 2 playdays now and he has done wonderful. He gets pretty excited so he may be to much for a small child, but any child that has some experience would love riding Star. He had not been practicing and ran a 20 sec barrel. You would never know he had lost an eye from watching him run. He needs a special person that will allow him to continue doing what he loves.
His adoption fee is $500
Star has come back to the rescue. He is just as wonderful as ever. Star would love a teenager to hang out and run barrels with.
I would like to give a great big thank you to Kim Kaufmann. She has donated $100 for Star's eye surgery.
